Li|po|tro|pin [ Lip- u. -tropin], das; -s, -e; Syn.: lipotropes Hormon (LPH): den Fettstoffwechsel steuernde Hypophysen-Hormone aus 89–93 Aminosäuren (β-L.) sowie 58 Aminosäuren (γ-L.), deren Sequenzen teilw. mit denen von Corticotropin, Melanotropin, Enkephalinen u. Endorphinen übereinstimmen.

Lipotropin
 
[zu griechisch trépein »drehen«, »wenden«] das, -s/-e, lipotropes Hormon, Abkürzung LPH, Sammelbezeichnung für zwei Polypeptidhormone des Hypophysenvorderlappens, die einen vermehrten Fetttransport zur Leber mit einem gleichzeitigen Anstieg der Ketonkörper und freien Fettsäuren im Blut bewirken. Die Sekretion von Lipotropin erfolgt u. a. nach Fettbelastung und im Hungerzustand.
